Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses a coach?

All sorts. People in transition of some form, professionals, business owners, CEOs, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, parents. Clients are resourceful and intelligent individuals who want to get more out of their life and careers. They have a fierce desire to learn and grow.

How does coaching work?

It’s a process. Before starting a coaching relationship, I insist that we chat on the phone or meet in person, and offer a complimentary 45-minute sample session. This helps us understand whether we have chemistry and would like to work together. If we decide to go ahead, we will then have an initial discovery session to get to know each other more and understand what outcomes we would like from our period of coaching together. This is followed by regular 1-on-1 coaching sessions which are 1 hour long and tailored specifically around your goals. The process may include discussion around areas where you are challenged, deep listening and empathy, powerful questions, inquiry, challenge, learning and ultimately taking action. The objective is to have you moving forward with accountability to create a life that you really love. Sessions are conducted bi-weekly and I generally ask for a commitment of 3-6 months as this is usually the period over which lasting and sustainable change and results can occur.

Who are your typical clients?

A mix. My clients are from all over the world and from all walks of life. What they have in common is that they are passionate professionals and entrepreneurs who take their development seriously and are ready take action. They have personality, intelligence, talent and drive. Some are just starting a business and others have been in a career or business for years but the same principles apply. I empower them to think big and take action to design and grow their lives and businesses in a way that inspires them.

What is the discovery session?

Fun and thought provoking.  The discovery session is our first conversation and a series of questions and exercises that help build the foundation for our coaching together. It is a creative and fun session which helps me understand you better. We will be creating a roadmap of where we want to go with the coaching, designing how we wish our sessions to go, and taking stock of where you are in the key areas of your life. Prior to the session, I will send you some materials and questions for you to mull over which will stimulate your thinking and inquiry.

Do I really need a coach?

No. There is nothing wrong with you. However, whether you are stuck or experiencing a peak moment in your life, working with a coach will always enrich your thinking, decision making and energy levels. It accelerates the process of you designing and creating of a life and a career that you find truly inspiring.

How does coaching differ from therapy?

The focus. Therapy focusses on the past and present. It analyses the historical origins and roots of certain issues or behaviours. The objective is to create understanding and ultimately treat issues or heal underlying emotional trauma. Coaching focusses on the present and the future. Coaches are trained to work with functioning clients and do not attempt to diagnose or treat problems. The objective is to evolve individuals in order to maximize their potential and create a more desirable future. This is done though targeted action and empowering different ways of being.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. Everything that we discuss from initial conversations to actual coaching sessions will remain strictly confidential. Any notes that I my take are just for my own use and development, and will be stored and disposed of with the utmost of care.
